Question:
In 1988 what was the reason for the Bulls improving, Michael Jordan's Development or Scottie Pippen's Arrival
2008-05-16 13:00:57 UTC
1987-88 the Bulls recorded a season record of 50-32 & and it was Michael Jordan's first time advancing out the 1st Rd of the playoffs. That year was Michael Jordan's 4th season (actually his 3rd FULL season because he only played 18 games his 2nd season) in the NBA since being a 'KID' that left college early. That year Michael Jordan also achieved his first NBA MVP (look it didn't take him 12 seasons..lol) along with his first (& only) Defensive Player of the Year Award.

1987-88 was also Scottie Pippen's Rookie Year and this is what type of player he was.

7.9 ppg, 2.1 apg, 3.8 rpg, 57.6 FT%, 17.4 Three PT %, 46.3 FG%, & 20.9 MPG
He WASN'T in the starting lineup
He WASN'T good enough to make the All-Rookie Team (because he didn't)
He was a very skinny kid in a grown-mans league and his personality was discribed as being 'SCARY'!

So was it MJ's MVP Development or The SCARY Kid that only averaged 7.9 ppg & wasn't even a starter?

Remember this ? is only about 1988!

definitely MJ's development and kobe jockers will try to tell you otherwise but they ignore the facts like MJ winning MVP just 4 seasons into his nba career... now that is scary

Actually "Queen" Pippen did DEVELOP during the last part of his rookie season! in fact when the 1988 playoff's came around Pippen was playing his best basketball and saw his minutes increase!!!...He averaged DOUBLE Figures in scoring and over 5 Rebounds per game!(during the playoff's)...(No Wonder the Bulls FINALLY advanced)...Pippen's emergence was the Real Reason....

after all MJ never had a winning season without him and Pippen did a better job without MJ then MJ could do without Pippen...THAT's A FACT!

After Michael Jordan have been given b/tch slapped by potential of the 80's communities Pippen connect him to dominate a watered down ninety's era. No participant can win without their "scottie pippen" Magic gained with an injured Kareem and merely approximately gained the ninety one' finals virtually by potential of himself

It was Jordan being a great mentor...Acording to Teammates MJ challenged Pippen to a 1 on 1 scrimage every practice for hours. Jordan pushed Pippen to be the best he could be and reach his full potential. Pippen would have never been this good if he played alongside Charles Barkley or anybody else for that matter.

You seem to already have the answer you are looking for. Do you simply want confirmation from other like minded Jordan fans (and I'm in agreement with what you seem to be contending)?

The question should probably be, "Did Jordan Need Pippen?", or, "When Was Pippen's Impact On the Bulls First Felt?"

in your question about kobe leading the lakers to 62 wins without his #2 guy why not mention the 69 wins or even 72 wins that jordan had with scottie. kobe is just a joker whos name should never be mentioned in th same book as jordans.

and to answer this question is was a combo of both. but i give the edge to mj's development

I think it is pretty even. 50% of MJ's development and 50% of Scottie's Arrival. Also Scottie was a great player just not in his rookie year.

i say it was due to both charles oakley and MJ's improvement as well as the arrival of horace grant and scottie pippen from the draft because those 2 gave the bulls some scoring, rebounding, defense, and passing off the bench.

I had a pair of Scotty Pippens shoes but my friends stupid *** dog chewd them up. My answer is Scotty Pippens shoes, Scotty Pippen's shoes was the reason why the Bulls improved so much during 1988.

Both.

Jordan developed as a player and took pippen under his wing.

Jordan's development carried the team. His stamina and ability to sustain dominance over 82 games improved.

It was Jordan's development. In '87 that was the year the Knicks were pushing him around and bullying him, so he got in the gym and started bulking up.

It was 20 YEARS AGO! MJ lovers like you need to give it a rest already. We all know MJ was a great player and that Kobe is 10 times better than MJ ever was.

I think it was Magic, Bird, and the Piston/Isiah all

getting caught licking ... Magic in the Playboy mansion,

Bird in French (Lick)...Isiah Magic's jewels and MSG.

That's funny... it didn't take Bill Russell four years to "develop" into a player who could get out of the first round.

It didn't take Magic Johnson four years to "develop" into a player who could get out of the first round.

It didn't take Larry Bird four years to "develop" into a player who could get out of the first round.

It didn't take Wilt Chamberlain four years to "develop" into a player who could get out of the first round.

It didn't take Shaquille O'Neal four years to "develop" into a player who could get out of the first round.

It didn't take Kareem Abdul-Jabbar four years to "develop" into a player who could get out of the first round.

It didn't take Tim Duncan four years to "develop" into a player who could get out of the first round.

See any patterns here?
