I'm trying to coach a basketball team consisting of 16-17 year old guys here in the Philippines for an upcoming December league. And it's pretty common here to play 2-3 zone on defense so I wanna ask what good plays can I make them run in order to get good shots.

i would like to learn an offense that creates open jumpers against a 2-3 zone, as i have some kids on my team that are capable to hit shots from the outside.

or anything that can break a 2-3 zone defense would re be helpful. thanks in advance

I'd run a pick and roll against one of the guards on the perimeter. On the same side of the play, make sure to set a good shooter in the corner who will get an open shot when the forward steps up to help cover the pick and roll.

best way to beat a zone is outside shooting. load up your wing with the best shooters on your team, make 2-3 threes and that will make them doubt their defense if they really should play a zone against you. but if the opposing team is to stubborn to change from a 2-3 zone to a, lets say a man-to-man. teach your pg or your 2-guard to drive dish, this will attract their forwards leaving your wing players open. the one driving has 2 options, either pass to the outside or drop pass to your big man. here's a play i can advice, let your 2 big men to give a solid double-pick so your pg can choose to go left or right, and have your wings zag to the corner when the pg attacks. im sure your guys will learn quick, 16-17 yr olds living in the philippines shouldve started playing ball at the age of 5, like i did here in pasig.

Break the D at the top by faking a drive through the middle of the key. The guards will probably close that gap. The guy with the ball passes to a guy cutting behind the guards for the shot; unguarded (Unless the forwards on D are quick).

Don't know if it will work :S

Traditionally to beat any zone you do it with lots of quick passes all around and back as the offensive players move around too. As you keep passing as many times as it takes, the zone will fail to recover its ideal position, because the passes are faster than their shifts. Once I defender is not any a good position, you can drive the line or pull up closer for a shot. In this theory you don't ever have to drible as you keep passing, but the players should move around to shake things up.

if you have a good slasher (point guard or shooting guard) it is best to use pick n roll to destroy a 2-3 zone. a pick n pop is also good if you have a center that has a perimeter shooting. and the best thing to destroy a 2-3 zone is a 3point gunner especially at wing..
