Who in the NBA has been proven to be the best defender against Tim Duncan? And i specifically used the word "proven" because i know there are players who average 2+ blocks and 10 rebounds and so n so, but can't even slow down Duncan. Also YES, i do know think that there is no one in the game right now who can shut down duncan, but who is the best at containing him? And give reason

Some time ago a similar question like this was asked but it involved who in the Western Conference defended Duncan well. I checked the head-to-head stats for many of the players people suggested. You can see the question and answers here

I like Tim Duncan's game and was surprised by the results of him vs other Western Conference big men. He is better than I thought.

You can do head-to-head for all players on the basketball-reference web site.

Or you can check a comparison of players' stats in that they may not have played each other but compare their stats

Pretty cool.

There is not such thing as "stopping Duncan". No such thing. You can take him out of his rhythm but you cannot stop him entirely.

But I agree with Kenny Smith.

Sheed plays very good against Duncan well. He can contest Duncan when he shoots mid-range, and he guards Duncan physically when he backs down. Other than that, Sheed is a smart veteran, he knows Duncan very well, and is accustomed to guarding him every single night.

Next would be Diop, or Kurt Thomas. Diop has those long arms, a wingspan that haunts Duncan when he's tired after 40 minutes of playing. But he lacks craftiness, and Duncan just uses his array of post moves to get by that monster. Thomas, on the other hand, has the smartness, he rarely gets pump-faked, but lacks athleticism. Duncan just spins by him most of the time and throws a boring lay-up lol. And the fact that Kurt knows that he didn't have a dominant shotblocker (Suns so small, and Amare is pathetic at weakside help), doesn't help too.

I would go with Big Ben. Yes Duncan will get 15 to 18 but Wallace is 6'9 or 6'10 and still gives big men 7'2 a run for their money.

The other player would be either the upcoming Dwight Howard or K.G. .I say Dwight Howard b/c of his quick defensive awareness when it comes to blocking he's on a whole norther level than Duncan.

I added K.G. b/c the little bits I've seen out of the 2 when guarded by each other neither one really dominates besides K.G. we'll score 4 to 7 points more but Duncan will get the Win!!!

Sheed does do a good job on Duncan because he is very long and he knows TD's tendencies. Big Ben also does a good job because he's quick, strong, and not afraid of Duncan. A couple others who have guarded TD effectively were Shaq because of his strength, Desagana Diop because of his size and arm length, Dikembe Mutombo for obvious reasons, and I've also seen KG make Duncan's life hell with his speed, length, and determination.

But, if I had to pick one guy to guard TD all day. Try Alonzo Mourning. Besides Duncan himself, Mourning is the next best post defender in the league. He's strong enough to body up to TD. He's long enough to bother the short jumpers. He's quick enough to beat TD to his favorite spot. And, he's nasty enough to get under TD's skin.

If Ratliff is young I say Ratliff but he's aging and so as Ben Wallace and even Sheed will have tough time to match TD so I'l go with Tyson CHandler to deny TD the Ball all the time cause he's quicker and more agile playing TD physically still a big question mark

Rasheed Wallace always plays him well, long arms, athletic, massive wing span, Duncan and Sheed is always a great match up.

Ill go with a suprise pick in boozer ! because he could make duncan work on defense really hard and get him tired enough for duncan wont have enough energy to score.
